About

Hi, my name is Róisín and I love gemstones. What woman doesn’t, right? But It’s not all about diamonds and sapphires -  I love the less well-known stones as well (malachite and sodalite are two of my favourites) and I love the history behind precious stones.  People have worn gemstone jewellery for thousands of years and stones have long  been thought to have medicinal qualities and even though my family doctor doesn’t agree, a lot of people today still believe in the healing power of certain stones .

It seems amazing that there are so many sites offering information about gem and stone ‘properties’ and ‘lore’ but there are few offering the stories behind it all! Why is Amethyst supposed to cure drunkenness? What’s the deal with birthstones etc. etc. Ancient mythology is fascinating and as a jewellery designer, I love to know the true lore and history of my materials.

There are so many stories, myths and superstitions about precious stones but they are surprisingly hard to find, so I started this sight as a place to consolidate those stories.  Some of the lore is informational but others are short stories.  They are told my own words because that’s how myths work best – as stories told from one person to the other. However, I am not a professional so I hope you enjoy the stories, even if the writing style isn’t always the best…

Thanks for stopping by.  Do check back regularly for more updates and stories. Also, please do leave comments or email because feedback is always welcome, especially if you know more gem stories!

Róisín
